Dog & Puppy Training with Partnership in Mind
Welcome to The Blog a place for...
Dog Training Tips & The Ups and Downs of Raising a Puppy or Training a Dog!
I'm Mary, owner, and founder of Tara's School for Dogs. I'd like to share a little about myself and how I became a professional dog trainer. I've been training dogs for over 10 years. However, before meeting Tara I was a cat person. A through and through cat person that had nothing to with dogs. Dogs were not sophisticated, or charismatic and they certainly couldn't purrr!
The funny thing is that even as a devoted cat person, I trained the cats too. Yes, my cats could do tricks and acted a lot like dogs. A friend told me that maybe underneath it all, I was really a dog person. I would have none of it!
Fast forward to or back to the future in 2009, I retired from a career in clinical research. Well, in truth, I was unexpectedly laid off after 25 years and that landed me in an unexpected place. I adopted a completely beautiful and sweet hairy hairless Chinese Crested with Progressive Retinal Atrophy, which meant she would be completely blind in about seven years.
In training Tara to be a therapy dog, I fell in love with dog training. While I rescued Tara, one can also say she rescued me by teaching me all about dogs and communicating with them through positive reinforcement training.
It took hard work in both academic education and experience to become a professional certified dog trainer. I bring and share this knowledge generously with my students, human and canine. And that's why at Tara's School for Dogs the saying goes:
Humans and Dogs in Partnership. Let Us Show You How!
